Emmanuel, God with us
You left heaven's throne and dwelt with us
You came to earth as a Holy, lowly babe
In a dirty stable, not a fancy palace that was man made
You changed the world that day
Laying softly on a bed of hay
Mary and Joseph cried when they saw You smile
As the star above shone brightly in the sky
As a humble carpenter You had a great plan
You turned fishermen into fishers of man
Large crowds they followed You
Miracles you formed and many lives were made new
You taught Your true followers to be obedient and holy
To take up their cross daily and follow Thee
A mixed group You choose when You looked into their hearts
Your love was the greatest gift You did impart
You were beaten, bruised and scarred by cruel human hands
You carried Your cross that was Your plan
You took our sins when You died on the Cross
You came to save the hurting and the lost
Your blood poured out when You died at Calvary
Your body was broken for sinners like you and me
Your plan was fulfilled and Your Covenant was made new
This was Your plan and You carried it through
You rose again victorious on the Sabbath day
Heaven and earth collided when You made Your way
You stood with those who loved You with all their hearts
And stayed a while then it was time for You to depart
All who saw You ascend to glory
Ran to tell others about this amazing story
Filled with the Holy Spirit in the Upper Room they rejoiced and were bold
To share the greatest story this world has ever known
You commissioned Your disciples to travel far and wide
Some were tortured, captured or crucified
But the good news was spread and lives were forever changed
All part of the great plan You had previously arranged
Today, Your Holy Spirit lives in us
You are Emmanuel, God with us
Until You return we will daily take up our cross
And reach out to those who are hurting and lost
